As Virtual Reality stepped into our worlds, it quickly adopted the most played and loved gaming genre – action. And specifically action shooters. I remember how many hours of my life I have spent staring into my computer screen, completely immersed in the experience of shooting other human beings (virtual, but still). I had lost all track of time and space and I loved it. And now with virtual reality allows you to take that immersion on a whole new level where you don’t just shoot with a mouse and keyboard or a controller, but you actually aim, take cover and shoot with your physical body. And many new amazing games keep popping out and contribute to the action shooter genre. One of those games is Space Ops VR.
Not only does it bring you the satisfaction of action, but it is also sci-fi, set in outer space where you are a rookie on their way to join a special ops team. The elites’ task is to ensure the safety of a dangerous deep-space expedition. And to see if you are fit for the team, you will go through harsh environments, fights against aliens and even against other players, just to prove that you are the toughest. So are you up for the challenge?
Space Ops VR is developed by Devcube Studio who were nice enough to answer a few of our questions for a quick interview. Check out what they had to say below.
Q: What was the inspiration behind your game?
A: The team was inspired by a lot of different scifi culture references. There are so many sci-fi games and films nowadays so it is difficult to choose out the one as the main source of inspiration. We have heard from the community repeatedly that Space Ops reminded them of Starship Troopers. The settings were created by our talented concept artists.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your team/studio.
A: We have built a team of professionals to create unique and innovative products. Each one of them is an expert in his field with over ten years of experience in the IT/Game Development business. Our team has extensive experience in developing games of various genres.
Q: How long has the game been in development?
A: It took us about two years. It is difficult to say exactly. There was a lot of prototyping and pre-production.VR development is a relatively new direction in game development. Despite our experience, a lot of things for us had to be studied from scratch – switching to a new engine, VR development specific things, development of a new pipeline for assets production, BP prototyping and so on.
Q: According to you what is the most interesting thing about the game?
A: Although the game is a lot of fun in single player, it was designed to deliver intense coop
online multiplayer. The team also put a lot of focus on addressing some of the VR challenges such as motion sickness and tried to balance the gameplay to give players the most comfortable
Q: What are your future plans for the game?
A: As of today, the game is completed, but we plan to release some updates in the future.
Our plan is to support Space Ops VR as long as we can. Please send over your suggestions to improve the game if you have any.
Space Ops VR looks like a badass sci-fi action shooter in VR that will bring exactly the immersion that I was talking about in the beginning of this article. Once you put the headset on and shoot one bullet, you will be hooked. It offers a lot of features like multiplayer, a co-op mode, basic training for beginners, a variety of futuristic weapons and much more. So if you want to give it a go, check out their Steam page as it is now on sale!
