Lots of games have you stranded on an island, trying to survive or find a way back to civilization. These Lands leaves you marooned on a mysterious island full of secrets, things to find and puzzles to solve. Find messages left behind by the explorer who was on the island before you and went down the rabbit hole of finding its secrets. Of course, doing all this in full VR.
Interacting with the environment makes it feel more real and gives you lots to play with while you are just enjoying you involuntary stay on the island. Throw around coconuts, play with paddles, shoot arrows, find messages in bottles and have a blast. When you are done goofing around, you can start getting to the bottom of These Lands and finding out what happened to the previous person who was in your place.
Simple yet pretty
The chosen art style for the game is a very low poly and simple look that feels easy on the eyes and a breeze to understand. Everything looks crisp. In my humble opinion, this is the art style that game developers, working with low budgets, should use. It’s easier to make, assets are cheaper and it’s way better than being able to see the pixels on every wall. All of this goes double for VR games like this one. Wise choice These Lands and Astro Chimp (The studio behind the game).
These Lands is hard to write about because I don’t want to spoil any of the puzzles or mysteries that its world holds. However, I would recommend that you check it out. It costs next to nothing and it is made by a brand new studio. Check out their Steam page and consider getting it, if you have a HTC Vive or an Oculus Rift.
