Japanese VR studio MyDearest and Los Angeles-based Sekai Project launch a kickstarter campaign on July 10th for the development of a new manga game for Virtual Reality, planned for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PSVR.
In the press release by Anime News Network it is revealed that Tokyo Chronos is a mystery visual novel game which follows the story of a 16-year old protagonist Kyosuke Sakurai (voiced by Yuto Uemura). He finds himself in a deserted Shibuya frozen in time – a “Chronos World.”
The story unfolds around 8 childhood friends separated from the reality of this world and “as time and space seemingly comes to a halt, the eight begin to disappear, one by one.”
Haruki Kashiwakura who previously directed Expelled from Paradise is directing the VR project at MyDearest and the illustrator for the characters is LAM. Scenario is written by novelist Kou Segawa and Kazuma Miki (producer for A Certain Magical Index, Sword Art Online franchises) is producing the work.
The game is planned to be released via Steam in Japanese, English and Chinese.
The creators have set a funding goal of US$75,000 that will cover development costs and also make merchandise for backers with estimated delivery of February 2019. “Rewards include a digital or physical copy of the visual novel, a digital soundtrack, a digital artbook, a mini light novel, a vinyl record, signed shikishi boards, credits in the game, and a hand-drawn illustration.”
