The sound-based horror game Stifled launched in 2017 exclusively for PlayStation VR. The Singaporean studio Gattai Games finally brought their debut product (July 10th) to Steam that will be available on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. It will also be for sale on the Oculus Store, Humble and Itch.io.
A headset is not required to play, as the game is fully playable on a monitor, but experiencing it in virtual reality really makes for a full adrenaline-filled immersion.
The game gives you two choices: to make a sound and survive or to make a sound and die.
You take the role of the blind protagonist David Ridley who uses sound like echolocation to see little glimpses of the dark world around him. You can implement it with your voice via a microphone, by throwing ingame objects or pressing an optional button.
However, there are terrifying creatures lurking for you, hiding in various creepy places and are attracted to any sound you make. Fortunately there are some natural sound sources like running water that can help you but at the end it is all up to you.
