When done right, virtual reality games can have a huge impact on our understanding of gaming in VR. It is still somewhat easy for VR developers to create a game with a “wow” effect, because the niche is still small and there is a lot of incredible things that can be accomplished. However, more and more amazing games keep coming out, so even with such small competition, it is still difficult to make a great game for VR. Today we are looking at one game that might have accomplished that and made us feel like we are trying VR for the first time. That’s A Fisherman’s Tale.
About the Game
A Fisherman’s Tale is a mind-bending puzzle adventure game that will twist and distort your perception of reality and what is and what isn’t. You are going to be turned upside down and inside out and we are talking quite literally here. You are going to play as Bob who is a tiny fisherman puppet. Bob lives alone in his tiny cabin and he has no idea of what the outside world is like. One day, Bob’s radio broadcasts a storm alert and you realize you have to get to the top of the lighthouse to turn on the light. However, as you start leaving the lighthouse with the help of some mysterious sidekicks, you realize that what’s been waiting for you outside is absolutely not what you expected.
Features and Gameplay
In A Fisherman’s Tale your task is to make it to the top of the lighthouse before the Big Storm. You do that by solving puzzles. And you solve puzzles by using your virtual hands to pick up, toss, put together and a lot more glorious actions in VR that will really help you immerse into the world. You may find yourself inside a lighthouse that’s inside a lighthouse, inside another lighthouse inside another…. I think you get the idea, there is some lighthouse inception. But don’t worry, once you uncover the truth of the Fisherman’s tale, everything will click together.
A Fisherman’s Tale is a VR game that is able to bring you to the first time you ever tried VR. I remember when I played with a headset for the first time, I was incredibly amazed. I instantly felt addicted and I wanted to play more and more games and discover all the different worlds that VR can offer. After I got used to it a little, this feeling faded away. Especially from some games that weren’t as good. But A Fisherman’s Tale was able to bring that feeling back again, and that’s why it is such a good game. I definitely recommend it, and if you want to check it out, you can do that on their Steam page.
